Graph Uric Acid Level

The first of today's short gout questions is graph uric acid level. It seems a strange question. Graph uric acid level against what? A particular gout treatment? A particular gout diet? Let me explain uric acid levels in general terms, then you can interpret your data against particular aspects of your own gout treatment or lifestyle. The most important thing about uric acid level graphs is (more…)...

Lisinopril and Gout

[This Lisinopril and Gout discussion moved from old forum August 2009] My Experiences with Lisinopril and Gout Lisinopril belongs to a group of drugs known as ACE inhibitors. These drugs are used to treat hypertension and a number of other maladies. I was put on Lisinopril approximately three weeks after my blood pressure skyrocketed to 177/99 while I was at my local clinic, causing me to collapse in to a chair. This incident was brought on by a huge sleep deficit and extremely high level of stress. After about thirty minutes, my blood pressure did fall back to 139/92 (or so), which was still above my average BP over the last three months of 127/85. The doctor that insisted that I go on Lisinopril was not my regular doctor and in fact, was quite condescending, failing to listen to a word I said to him. On my medical records, it showed that at one point last...

Is Doctor Allopurinol Killing You?

This one is to allopurinol takers everywhere. Why do you put up with such shoddy service? Every week, I get messages from gout sufferers, and their carers, about problems with allopurinol. Most of these show that absolutely no thought has gone into the treatment. If you bought a car with only two wheels, would you accept it and drive round in a shower of sparks? If you called a plumber to fix your leak, would you be happy to pay a weeks wages for him to merely turn the water off? Would you pay an optician who grabbed the nearest pair of specs and said, "Here, these will do," without testing your eyes? Why take allopurinol without checking that it is doing it's job? (more…)...

Prednisone For Gout

In an earlier discussion about prednisone for gout, we had a lot of contributions, but no conclusions. I summarize the main points of the discussion below, but first let me introduce prednisone as one of many gout remedies for pain relief. Prednisone for Gout 2018 For the latest information, please see Prednisone for Gout. Also, the related reviews of relevant science at Prednisone and Gout Facts for Patients. It is not gout specific, it is one of the steroid drugs that reduce inflammation, thus relieving pain. It belongs in my Gout Pain Relief pages, which I am currently reviewing. The steroid family of drugs causes much debate, with some people opting for them immediately, as their first choice pain relief, whilst others view them as a last resort. I would like to update my comprehensive guide to gout pain relief, but I'm still not sure how to include prednisone and similar steroids. I may need to include it as an open option, to...

Time To Cure The Gout Treatment

Time To Cure The Gout Treatment

As GoutPal.com passes another birthday milestone, I'm starkly aware that many pages are stuck in the old website format. I've committed myself to moving or upgrading all the old pages as my top priority. This will make it much easier to find the right information, and hopefully help contributors to the gout forum find better answers quicker. Logically, I should start with uric acid, then gout symptoms, gout treatment, gout diet, finishing with gout related and any other stragglers. However, it is clear to me that, except for gout diet, most visitors are seeking the best cure for their gout. Therefore, I'm determined that February will become Gout Treatment month, when I complete the transfer and upgrade of all gout cure, remedy, or relief pages. These will be in the subsections: Avoid Gout By Uric Acid Reduction Treatment For Gout Anti-Inflammatory Gout Cure Gout Remedies For Pain Relief Gout Medicine Natural Gout Cures Natural Gout RemedyGout ReliefRemedies For GoutGout Home Remedies I also plan to integrate the gout cures forum more...

Take Gout Treatment To The Next Level

Take Gout Treatment To The Next Level

I am adding new personal gout treatment management tools here on GoutPal Interactive. As I wrote earlier today, there are 3 simple steps to a good gout treatment plan. I will add a personal gout symptoms assessment tool for swollen joint sufferers who are unsure if they have gouty arthritis or some other form of arthritis. Confirmed gout patients probably will not need this, but they may benefit from the other tools. I will add a personal gout treatment management tool for gout patients to set goals and monitor progress. Many gout sufferers, and even some healthcare workers, get confused about correct gout treatment. Maintaining uric acid at safe levels is vital. Finding the best pain relieving combination for the first few weeks or months of uric acid lowering gives the gout sufferer a quality of life that allows them to work, rest, and play unhindered. Managing gout treatment is the core of successful gout management. All gout patients need this tool, but...

Gout Article: The Lancet, Jan 2010

The most recent article on gout from the UK's leading medical journalGout. The Lancet. Jan 2010.pdf (781 KB) GoutPal Note: This is an excellent summary on the current understanding of gout, and how best to treat it. Towards the end, the authors note: patient information seems to be an outstanding issue in the management of gout?every patient should be informed about the disease, its curable nature, the targets and practicalities of drug therapy, how to prevent and handle flares, and the importance of lifestyle and dietary factors. And that, my friends, is the GoutPal raison d'?tre....
