I have been gaining weight too but I believe that is from sweet potatoes and butter. I have eaten some of those items you mentioned and they affected my gout with flair-ups. With gout one has to know their triggers. For example, A person I knew could not eat whole wheat as every time he did he would get an attack. I could eat all I want without incidence. I can’t eat oats. I get an attack every time I eat it. Even some seeds give me an attack such as hemp hearts or chia seeds. Thanks for the advice on omega acids. I do take a b12 vitamin and multi-vitamin every day. I, of course, eat salt but watch it when I can. I eat fruit especially apples and cherries which are both supposed to be good.Still, I am suffering and will need medications such as colchizine or steroids to knock this low-grade attack out. I say low grade but it is very painful as a major attack is an ambulance trip to the emergency room. One was so bad they gave me a drug (I don’t recall the name) stronger than morphine. Right now the major pain is in the elbow. If it was in my feet I would have been in the ER by now.

I have been taking cherry capsules and several herbs that I make tea from (given to me by a licensed European herbalist). I have been drinking fresh squeezed lemon juice every morning. I have not been eating any meats whatsoever. The jury is still out and in fact I am making an appointment with my doctor to get colchezine as I am still suffering. These things may help but it must take months of regular use as I have been now taking them for about three weeks to no or very little avail. I have been meatless for months with the exception of about two ounces of chicken on Thanksgiving (no turkey). When I was in Italy an herbalist gave me a mixture to brew tea that knocked out an attack very quickly, but I am told that one of the ingredients was mistletoe and that can not be purchased in the US as it is a lethal poison and can only be used by a licensed herbalist in Italy. I have derided that once I get rid of this attack I am going vegetarian and I hope that works. I have now been told that even salt and sugar are not good as they make it harder fro the body to rid itself of the uric acid. High fructose corn syrup is a disaster which is everything. Even breads contain yeast which is not good. Only fruits in moderation and most veggys. No spinach, no asparagus, no cauliflower, and no mushrooms. So the answer may be starve to death or take drugs. I have both liver and kidney problems so Aloprurinol may be out as a doctor did not want to give it to me a while ago. Uloric has been shown to damage the heart. It is like between a rock and a hard place but desperation prevails,

Please take note that many publications state that cherries and cherry juice (pure) are very good for gout. Celery has also been stated as being good for gout. I can only say that they have not worked for me. If you do use these types of foods, if they work at all it will take some time of religiously consuming them, in my opinion.

Hello thanks. Normal living in a modern world means that your liver is on overtime as it is because of all the poisons. Every square inch of the earth and air has some sort of toxins in it and your body id absorbing poisons constantly. I already have liver problems and a rheumatologist did not want to give it to me. I have been taken herbs (Two of the five given to me as I am still waiting for the others to be delivered and they seems to work.) The jury is still out on that.

I have just started herbs as a relief of gout pain. I just started and it actually seems to help. I will put the herbs on this forum when i am completely convinced. In the meantime I understand that fresh lemon juice (*half a lemon) and citrus in general every morning on an empty stomach helps. Also, fat free or low fat dairy products help. I can only say that if they do help it takes long period of time for it to do any good. Alopurinol is a prescription medication that helps. Diet, a very strict one, is key no matter what is used.

Good advice. Yes, I know that herbs can hurt the liver and I do get blood tests every three or four months to check my liver and kidney functions as I have problems with both. I already have some joint damage due to 30 years with this horrifying problem. However, it is not so bad that I can’t live with it. COVID lock downs had all my tests on hold but I am having them done in January so I will have a baseline to judge any problems that may be caused by the herbs. I did call Italy again and the herbalist told me that the herbs I am taking (or will be taking) does not affect the liver more than normal living in a modern world. Since I have liver problems it is prudent to watch the levels. I have been doing that anyway. She said the herb mixture is actually good for the kidneys and joint damage due to gout maily happens when you have an attack which I have been going through a low grade attack for two months now. I am going to ask my doctor (my GP) about alopurinol again and see about taking that as well if it is okay with herbs. I would not take Uloric because as I said it affected my brother’s heart. Thanks for the heads up.

I too have inherited gout as do many in my family. Colchicine is a definite helps when you have an attack. The side effects can be nasty as it can cause serious diarrhea . That is really horrifying when you can’t walk or can’t walk quickly. (Sorry for the graphics). There seems to be some really good advice on this forum. When I was in Europe I was given an herb tea which was no less than a miracle. I called Italy and spoke to an herbalist that gave me the herbs and how to mix them for a tea, I have ordered them but have not received them yet. When I get them and if they indeed work again I will list them here along with instructions and where to buy them. My brother used them while living in Italy and they worked just as well for him too. He was taking Uloric for several years but it seems to affected his heart, which is now a known serious side effect of the drug. He is now on alopurinol which helps a lot. Diet is an important part of avoiding attacks, even when on the drugs, which is really not so easy. The very best of luck to you.

When in dire unbearable pain anything is an answer if it removes the pain, swelling and redness. Herbs did for me when I was in Italy as well as my brother who lived in Italy for over five years. I will let those here know about the herbs when I get them and they indeed work for me again. I don’t know about AOI drugs but if they help then that is great. My brother was using Uloric, but it affected his heart, which has now has been documented as a serious side effect of this drug, so he is back on alopurinol. (Watching ones diet in addition to any remedy is essential.) He is ecstatic that the herbs can now be bought online and easy to find in the USA. Whatever helps in quelling this insidious illness is an answer as there is no cure. Whatever help is available without serious side effects is an answer. Thanks for the info on AOI drugs and I will ask my doctor about them. Are they in a class of drugs which includes alopurinol and/or Uloric?
