Rebecca NahidParticipant
Well yesterday I consumed only juices throughout the day and a banana, and I had add regular food in the evening and pleased to report I lost a pound. I think rather than just consuming juices I will incorporate them much more into my diet
Rebecca NahidParticipantThanks very much for your response good to hear from you again! I’m only intending to do it for a couple of days to be honest to see how I get on. I’m not even sure if I will be able to manage it and may well end up caving in! I do suffer from low blood pressure so I’m intending to do it when I am at home and not working. To be honest there is no danger of me becoming dangerously thin as I currently weigh 170 pounds and I am 5-ft 4 so considered almost obese although I don’t look it.
I know there are many people that fast for weeks and that is not something I could do personally!
Rebecca NahidParticipantThanks Keith very well explained as usual and you are right I am happy with my result and looking at the charts it looks like I am bang on target. I only take 100 mg a day as well. Merry Christmas!

Actually Whole Foods is a nice supermarket chain they have some in London as well. It is a little bit pricier in the same way that way waitrose and food is more expensive but for me it’s ideal because they do lots of vegan stuff and the entire store is non-GMO.
I still love America but it’s a funny country. I watched a horror film on TV last night at 7 in the evening the same time that kids could be watching it they don’t have a watershed. They bleeped out the bad language but not the violence!!
October 25, 2018 at 1:38 pm in reply to: Diclofenac, allopurinol and colchicine safe to take together? #8465Rebecca NahidParticipantApparently the excuse is that vegetables have got more expensive but I still find it ridiculous that is so pricey! A pack of four healthy kale Burgers cost me over $6!
With regards to Canola I am talking about canola oil and that will be used in plenty of cereals particularly in Granola type. And as for beets I am talking about sugar! So not only is some of the sugar GMO it also uses bone char in the filtering process so it’s not even vegan.
October 24, 2018 at 7:42 pm in reply to: Diclofenac, allopurinol and colchicine safe to take together? #8429Rebecca NahidParticipantI eat a highly-processed diet in England if that’s what you want to call breakfast cereal like we Weetabix and Linda McCartney sausages but I still eat an overall healthy diet and thankfully none of these things have genetically modified ingredients in.
Lots of so-called natural cereals still contain genetically modified ingredients from beets corn canola oil etc… and lots of big companies like Quakers have been called out in the past for trying to hide GM. and bear in mind companies don’t have to say whether something has GM or not.
Thankfully the law is changing soon and companies will have to label GM ingredients over here.
October 24, 2018 at 6:34 pm in reply to: Diclofenac, allopurinol and colchicine safe to take together? #8427Rebecca NahidParticipantActually no I spent a long time in the supermarket looking at the backs of products. A lot of stuff from bacon bits to breakfast cereals to maple syrup was labeled as containing GM ingredients.

Canola oil and cotton seed oil and high processed corn syrup is in so much food here you just have to be careful shopping.
October 24, 2018 at 12:58 pm in reply to: Diclofenac, allopurinol and colchicine safe to take together? #8425Rebecca NahidParticipantI was glad that my doctor agreed it was okay for me to take Colchicine as a preventative When I visit hot countries. I was on it for 3 months when I first started taking Allopurinol and luckily I have never experienced any bad side effects from it. I feel like a saint because I am pretty much sticking to my Slimming World plan out here as we are self-catering. I have only found a couple of vegan friendly restaurants in the local vicinity but the majority of them in Orlando have the emphasis on fatty burgers covered in melting cheese and fries that seems to be the order of the day here! I have resisted visiting Whole Foods which is a supermarket chain Across America and England which makes waitrose look like a corner shop. I have never been anywhere quite so beautiful the displayed food is so picturesque. You can buy vegan celebration cakes and hot pizza so I’m not going there this year as it’s too much temptation!
I have to say we are very lucky in England because fruits and vegetables are very cheap you can buy a punnet of cherry tomatoes for 50p and a cucumber for the same price. Over here you are looking at 6 dollars. You have to pay a lot more to buy food which is non-GMO as well as the majority of cheap food is genetically modified here.
Rebecca NahidParticipantI was told by one doctor to come off allopurinol if I experienced an attack however when she checked on her computer it contradicted what she said and actually it recommended to stay on Allopurinol. I asked 2 further doctors who also told me I should not come of allopurinol during an attack I contacted the manufacturers of allopurinol and they also said not to stop taking it.
October 21, 2018 at 1:25 pm in reply to: Diclofenac, allopurinol and colchicine safe to take together? #8343Rebecca NahidParticipantThank you for your answer. I suppose I have never thought it would be necessary to take diclofenac once taking Colchicine because it is always being great as a preventative for gout. I didn’t Bank on having the ankle pain but luckily it has subsided now anyway.
It’s a shame I couldn’t buy voltarel cream in the pharmacy here they have some funny rules and yet you can buy melatonin tablets on the Shelf.
Rebecca NahidParticipantThank you for your encouragement Keith I am normally a very proactive person anyway to be honest when it comes to my health having had breast cancer 7 years ago I will insist on being taken seriously by doctors, because initially when I presented with my lump I had a dr who was very dismissive and said it was probably lumpy breasts due to my period.
So do you think that’s the whole 0.27 mmol/L is a good reading now for uric acid?
Rebecca NahidParticipantSorry guys I should have stated my uric acid in the mmol/L range! It is 0.27 mmol/L and my doctor seemed very happy with that so presumably I am okay carrying on with the 100mg as it seems to suit me.
My last test was done earlier in the year I do have to remind my doctor as I don’t find that he automatically notifies me. He’s really good though and are usually just email the surgery for his attention and ask to be sent for blood tests which he happily does.
I am really loving Slimming World I don’t stay for the meetings because a lot of it is not relevant to me and what I eat thought the people seem lovely.
I’ve tried one of the ready meals but it wasn’t that great there isn’t much of a selection for vegans. I do love making Slimming World chips and roast potatoes and my favorite recipe at the moment is mixing cooked butternut squash with butter beans and garlic with some lemon juice and oil you can eat it hot or cold as a dip 😊
Rebecca NahidParticipantThank you I haven’t got too much to lose my starting weight was 12 stone 4 pounds and I would like to get to around 11.
I’m 5 foot 5 and completely ignore my BMI as it’s a load of rubbish. I look awful if I go below that the thing is it will take longer when there is less to lose as the losses are not so big each week but I don’t mind.
Starting to get some odd pains again around my gout joint but I got this last winter and I am wondering if it is related to the temperature drop again and my circulation issues?
Well I’m here I just wanted to ask as well how often is it recommended to have my uric acid tested? I had it done in June and it was 4.8 which was in the normal range I know the first year of taking allopurinol they recommend every three months to check the Liver but I’m thinking every six month is suitable for me to monitor liver and uric acid levels?
Rebecca NahidParticipantNot to be nitpicky here but rather use the term of vegan eating plan than a diet because believe me you don’t always lose weight being vegan! It’s a misconception that vegans are always skinny you can easily eat a junk food vegan diet or you can just eat healthy vegan food but too much of it.
Also you may get people that will call themselves plant-based or that they eat a plant based diet however they may still wear fur and use products tested on animals. For me vegan is a lifestyle I am cruelty free wherever possible. I remember the pictures of Beyonce and Jay Z who suddenly decided they were vegan, and visited a vegan restaurant dressed head to toe in leather!
Rebecca NahidParticipantI was under the impression that fasting can raise uric acid levels? I don’t think I would be able to do that because I also have incredibly low blood sugar. The 5 2 diet sounds very punishing I think if I was able to do intermittent fasting I would probably do the 16/8 which is basically not eating until say 12 noon, then eating again in the evening but nothing after 8 p.m. to be honest a lot of people probably eat that way anyway accidentally. Years ago I never used to have breakfast and would eat at around 1 p.m. and then stop eating after 9 o’clock I wouldn’t say it helps my weight and I still got gout. If it works for you then however then go for it
Rebecca NahidParticipantWhat is true is that bacteria found in soil are the source of vitamin B12, and we get it by eating a little dirt on vegetables, or by eating animals who did the same thing. Because plants are more thoroughly washed now, we no longer get as much B12 from plants. Animals raised for human consumption don’t get as much dietary B12 as they used to either, because of changes in feeding methods, though animals have more B12 as a rule than thoroughly washed vegetables.
There is another reason why plants have reduced levels of many common nutrients: they have been bred to grow larger. The larger plants do not necessarily increase their nutrient uptake to compensate, leading to lower levels of nutrients. So it isn’t that soil is less nutritious, but that plants don’t absorb as many nutrients, and the missing nutrients must come from other sources. Animals are given supplements to compensate, and this is a major reason why animals tend to have higher B12 levels than washed plants.
I don’t think it’s about an us vs them argument when it comes to meat Eaters and vegans I just think that in general meat Eaters are given a lot less Flack than vegans. It is completely unfair to cross examine somebody over what they eat and that is why I’ve had for the last 7 years since going vegan. Also I don’t class my eating habits as a diet I am vegan that is my choice yes but it’s not a diet under any circumstances it’s a lifestyle and in fact a healthy lifestyle judging by all of my medical examinations so I know for a fact that there are no pitfalls in my diet if they were I would seek to rectify them.
Yes I do enjoy sugar and I do enjoy vegan cakes but I really am not going to worry about any potential pitfalls in my so-called diet the only thing I would like is to lose some weight which I suspect 70 or 80% of the population do as well.
Rebecca NahidParticipantYes I know the protein test you are talking about my doctor sent me for one because he always seems very dubious about vegan diets. My score came back within the normal range. My doctor has a huge stomach and is very unhealthy looking so I ignore a lot of his so-called nutritional advice which is actually very little.
I eat plenty of tofu so I never worry I know that I’m getting all the right nutrients at the moment.
Too much protein in the way that bodybuilders have it cannot be good for you as it also leaches calcium from the bones. I take a daily B12 supplement as it’s the only thing that I cannot get through food alone unless I was to drink massive amounts of fortified milk or nutritional yeast which I don’t eat. A lot of people don’t realise they have B12 deficiency even meat Eaters because of the way modern farming methods are and animals can’t always get it from the soil.
He always makes me laugh when people ask me if I am worried about getting enough omega-3 because I don’t eat fish. Fish get their omega-3 from algae so if I was really worried I can consume algae and get it Direct rather than from a secondary source.
Sometimes I do a kind of vegan bingo in my head because you can imagine I’ve heard so many contra actions to my lifestyle this is normally from people in my life who eats nothing but junk and drink every weekend but somehow become nutritionists once you tell them you don’t eat meat lol
