Do you want to eat candy, ice cream, and other sweets with gout? Go ahead and treat yourself, just don’t overdo it. There is no specific problem with sweets unless they are overloaded with added fructose. This is usually high fructose corn syrup, which can raise uric acid. Apart from that, moderate sweet intake as part of a calorie controlled diet will not make gout worse.

The best diet for gout sufferers is based on an alkaline gout diet menu. Here is a list of sweets with nutrients analyzed for their contribution to an alkaline diet, and other nutrients important to gout.

Sweets should always be seen as treats that will make your diet interesting and enjoyable. So, in moderation, you can include sweets in a healthy diet. But you must be aware of the risks.

If you look at the energy column in the sweets table, you will see that all portion sizes to achieve 100 calories are very small. You must limit calorie intake from sweets. Current guidance from Harvard is a maximum of 100 calories from sweets for women, and 150 for men. As well as general health issues, there are also potential gout risks from excessive calories.
