Can I still enjoy a few beers if I go on say 100, 200 or even 300mg of daily Allopurinol ?  Or will I pickle my liver or something ?

    What about steak, prawns etc.?

Can one expect to go back to eating the 'forbidden fruits' when takiing AP ?

    Any advice appreciated,

    Cheers,

    Paul.

Paul everything that I am learning about taking alli and enjoying the forbidden fruits say that yes you can but only dependant on your uric acid level being below 6 so that means that you need to get tested to see what your current level is and if it is below 6 you should be able to enjoy those forbidden fruits.

    Good Luck,

    JohnnyBrew

You've hit the nail on the head there, JohnnyBrew.

It's interesting to note that allopurinol is much more effective against purines from diet than it is against purines from our own body metabolism. It makes me wonder if there is any link between body weight and effective allopurinol dose.

I've been on 300mg of AP with UA between 4.0-5.0 on average and have been able to enjoy just about everything in moderation! I iike me a cold Corona or two or three!

I’m taking 80mg of Uloric and my SUA at last testing was 4.4 and over these holidays I have been able to enjoy forbidden fruits in moderation. Keyword being moderation. (Although I probably did get a little carried away with gravy on the mashed potato.(I avoided beer and just had tastes of hard stuff and wines.))

My SUA levels are in range of 3.5 to 4.5,  and I have also ventured out into eating some forbidden stuff in last one month, but in moderation. I just try not to overload myself with all forbidden stuff and as Keith has written in one of the post, I try to balance out my diet.

Have tasted wine and scotch on few occasions.

So far, it has not altered my SUA levels and not caused any harm.

Thanks to all for the replies and advice.

I've got an appointment with my Dr tomorrow to ask for the AP. I think its called Zyloprim here in Australia.

I still have a pretty bad flare up in the right elbow, wrist and fingers, but will start taking it anyway.

Hopefully it will get it under control.

I don't eat a lot of red meat or seafood, but I do love my beer!

Best to you all for 2010

    Cheers,

    Paul.
