My gout is what I would call “completely controlled” with almosrt 15 years of daily allopurinol 300 mg. My numbers are not GREAT but hover?just below?6.0. I have not had a major ?attack in that time. I fiddled with 200 mg. allopurinol for a time but my SUA slid up into the 6's.
Long story short: I have no more gout attacks. I have no dietary concerns and eat a lot of meat, and a lot of FOOD.
?
When I have a twinge in the morning, I will?sometimes pop 2 colchicine to stop it. Of course now that the colchicne FIX is in with the FDA I think long and hard before cutting into my stash…I'll never pay $5 for them.
?
So, August is a drinking month (I alternate between teetotalling, and do without completely the first 3 months of the year.) A local grocer had one of my faves on sale for a week. It's called YUENGLING'S BLACK AND TAN and it's a rich, strong black lager, somewhat like BOCH beer and PORTER.
So I dutifully drank a 6-pack a day for 7 days and my right foot started hurting in the tendon just in from the right bunion joint. That joint was the site of the AFH so long ago that had me?weeping in pain and bedridden.
I ignored the pain for?the day?day dismissing it, but it was worse at night. So I popped 2 colchicine. Next morning pain was?more focused at a point about 1/2 inch from the old joint. I took 4 more cochicine over 3 hours and SWITCHED to gin (martinis) for the day's libations. ?The pain stopped and I bought a jug of Canadian Club for Manhattans.
?
All is well.
Lesson learned: rich dark beer in quantity?CAN set off a gout attack, even when it's on sale for $5.99/ 6-pack! and even after all these years.

You should drink “HansinNewMexico Stout” and only a bottle at a time then you wouldn't have to learn lessons at YOUR age.

$5.99 a 6-pack?? Seriously, at that price, the question becomes 'Can you afford not to drink?'
