Pain began 12-1-11. ?Pain reached severe levels on 12-2-11. ?Called in sick to work and saw doctor on 12-3-11.

Doctor prescribed indomethacin. ?I understand drug causes weakness/erosion of stomach/intestinal mucus lining making digestive tract suceptable to ulcers and bleeding. ?I am an alcoholic and continued to drink beer anyways at the rate of 8 beers per night over the last 3 nights.

However, upon more research, I am trying the following:

    ?

    As of 17:06 hours, 12-4-11:

    Currently sober.

    Maintained dosage of Indomicin.

Substituted WINE for BEER (will drink later).

Began administration of oral Baking Soda, first dosage ( 0.5 teaspoon ) at 17:06 hours.

Pain level currently at 40% of acute levels.

I shall endeavor to update results and would love to hear of your experiences as well. ?Thank you.

    ?

    Updates:

    ?

    12-4-11 22:10

Took 50mg Idomicin + 0.75 teaspoon baking soda.

    Pain level constant at 40%

    12-5-11 ?

03:45 Intoxicated (wine), took?0.75 teaspoon baking soda. ?Pain level still at 40%.

04:35 vomited. ?due for 50mg indomicin in 95 min.

05:06 3x vomit now. ?Did not take the indomicin.

    18:00?Took 50 mg Idomicin.?Pain at 40%.

    12-6-11 ?

02:35 Remained sober. ? Going to eat and take 50mg indomicin. ?Pain level at 20%.

Thanks odo for the advice. ?The diagnosis was gout, the pain sudden and acute in right big toe. ?

    Pain where?

    1. You need a blood test to measure the uric acid level in your blood. This is crucial. However, readings can be lower during an attack.

    2. You may be more susceptible to the corrosive effects of NSAIDs because of your alcoholism (it sounds like you are already aware of this). The only other effective medication for gout? pain relief is colchicine, which would probably be just as bad.

    3. If you can get a confirmed diagnosis of gout, you need to start taking Allopurinol or a similar gout med to lower your uric acid level as soon as possible.
