hi everyone
was diagnosed with gout end of 2008 when i had gout in my big toe ,was put on allopurinol 300mg ,since then i have had an attack in my left knee which left me in severe pain for nearly 4 weeks .in the last 2 weeks i have had to more attacks in my right knee ,still suffering today ,been to my docs and he just said carry on with my normal dose and if it happens again he will send to a specialist but i dont think he has a clue .any help or suggestions would be welcome

Knee is always problemattical becasue it's never clear as a gout attack. THus people with or without gout injure their fragile knees and they take long to heal. I agree, keep to the 300 mg. allopurinol.
You should have something to stop an acute attack and the something I recommend is colchicine. Call your doctor and have him call in an Rx to your pharmacy. The stuff is cheap and is quite specific for gout. EVERYONE with gout should have it on hand becasue it works best at the first instant of an acute attack.

Any doctor who cannot explain how your falling uric acid levels might trigger gout attacks ( and prescribe appropriate pain relief) simply isn’t doing his job. If he is also failing to monitor your uric acid levels, with dose adjustments as necessary, then we are moving into the realms of clinical negligence.
