Hello,
I was Diagnosed with Gout when I was 42yrs old & I am 47yrs old now.
At 1st I would get an attack like every 6 months then every 3 months & now at least once a week.
1st think I did To help myself was that I stopped drinking beer & now I very rarely have a booze drink.
I am a big guy & when I saw my parents this past summer & they convinced me to start a diet & I did.
I lost 45 pounds so far & I am still dieting & working out.
Now I am a total Vegan.
I still suffer from gout in fact I am having a gout attack right now & I called in sick for work because I can only limp around now.
I found out that I cannot have soy, legumes, & chickpeas & that is why I am suffering right now.
I won`t totally stop eating these foods but no more that once a week for me.
I am taking vitamin C & drinking lemon in water to lesson my gout symptoms.
I am so glad that I found this site & to be able to find others out there that have this nasty aliment.
Thanks for reading.January 17, 2014 at 3:30 am #15937jasper65ParticipantI got Gout when i was 39, im now 46, I got to a stage where i couldn’t walk properly , and tried every diet fad out there. Eventually after reading this website I got my doctors locum to send me to a rheumatologist and she put me on allopurinol, well after a year of small attacks and one large one and taking 700mg a day I have now been gout free for a whole year. Oh and i still enjoy my beer and prawns, mushrooms….in fact I can eat anything. Go and see a rhuematologist….it took me 5 years to get to see one and it has COMPLETELY transformed my life. oh yes…i was at the gym yesterday and did my first running session for 6 years !!!

In this day and age, there is absolutely no reason for time off work through gout pain. But, you need to understand that it is different from many other types of pain. You almost always need combinations of drugs to:
- Limit inflammation spreading
- Reduce inflammation
- Block pain signals
For more info, see Pain Freedom.
Dieting without tracking uric acid changes is pointless. You can waste years of your life avoiding legumes. People who don’t understand purine metabolism or uric acid control will tell you to avoid them. Gout Home Remedies: Legumes and Gout explains why that is nonsense. If it doesn’t make sense to you, please ask for clarification.

I ordered a UAL meter from amazon.
I`ll post my UAL results asap.
Thanks for the advice.January 23, 2014 at 2:05 am #16012Keith Taylor (GoutPal Admin)ParticipantGreat stuff @billybuttcheeks. I look forward to seeing your results.
