“New Drug May Relieve Severe, Tough-to-Treat Gout
TUESDAY, Aug. 16 (HealthDay News) — For some gout patients afflicted with a particularly severe, crippling form of the disease who find standard treatments either intolerable or ineffective, a recently approved alternative appears to afford relief.
A new injectable treatment called pegloticase (brand name Krystexxa) has no effect on most severe gout patients, but researchers say that for the roughly four in 10 patients who do respond positively, the improvement can be significant.
Use of pegloticase was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in September 2010.
However, the treatment is expensive and the study found a high rate of side effects, some extremely serious, suggesting that health providers have to weigh the costs and benefits on a case by case basis.”
?
“The study authors noted that approximately 6 million (~2%) men and women in the United States suffer from some form of gout, an illness that stems from an inability of the body to adequately dispose of uric acid accumulation. Over the last two decades the number of Americans who struggle with the disease has gone up by roughly 50 percent.”
Now, here is some very bad food for thought: Gout has been around for several thousands of years.?Why, all of a sudden, has gout increased by ~50% in the last 20 years? Could it be that our government which tells us how to live, what to eat and not to eat (1) (via the FDA and a few other regulatory agencies) and supports, condones, uses the the (2) food giants industry to empty the (3) chemical industries' silos and feeds it to animals and human beings???
Please, don't anyone ask me to support my statements.
(1) There is ample prove in print and on the Internet of FDA's vicious actions against persons and companies who ignored or dared counteracting their dictatorial laws.
(2) Read the labels which the food industry puts on their products.
(3) You got to have a chemistry degree to understand the names of the chemicals (not food) which we are forced to eat. I say “forced” because many people do not have a choice or the money to just buy “healthy” (not contaminated by poisons, pesticides, genetically “engineered”) food in our stores.

Spends hours playing where it shouldn't, then brings home a mutilated corpse, or revolting, half-dead animal.
Decorating it blue and red don't make it interesting, or wanted.
Use your miraculous charting skills to plot gout against obesity and iron intake. Or just read my gout diet pages.

What's gotten into you, Keith?
Why would or should I “use my miraculous charting skills to plot gout against obesity and iron intake. Or just read your gout diet pages”?
All I tried was to point out another gimmick of the big pharmas in kahootz with the FDA and the food giants, poisoning the American public.
September 15, 2011 at 2:05 am #11964Keith Taylor (GoutPal Admin)ParticipantOh, is that what you were trying to do?
I thought you were asking “Why, all of a sudden, has gout increased by ~50% in the last 20 years?”
I believe it is due to the rise in obesity and iron consumption. It is the job of pharmas to exploit that. It is the job of the FDA to protect pharmas. It is our job to tell the truth and help gout sufferers. If we can add in a little humor, it makes the day brighter, but with “tophaceous Rumplestiltskin” I think I'm getting a laughter overload. I hope I'm laughing WITH you. I'd never laugh AT you.

Keith, you got it.
1. I do know that you don't laugh AT me.
2. “~50% in the last 20 years” was merely the quote from the article and my question was rather an academic one since I, you, and a few others already know the answers. (You confirmed my statement.)
I have never cited iron because I don't know about that, however, diabetes has always been on my list as I have pointed out in the past the presentation of a physician, (specialist for diabetic children at a San Francisco hospital) who in particular is pointing out the poisonous/addictive characteristics of HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup.) If you have the time, please, watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=277MKP7uV5g
3. I have particularly pointed the finger at the American food industry because it is almost impossible to get/find any “natural” food in our stores anymore. Even the so-called “organic” food items are a joke (not their prices, they are extortions). Since all grown food items must be watered with “rain from heaven”, saturated with acids and other poisonous gases and particles (Like jet fuels), how can they be called”organically grown”?
September 16, 2011 at 3:46 am #11975Keith Taylor (GoutPal Admin)ParticipantWow, I've seen stuff before about fructose and gout, but some of the research was very questionable, so I put it aside. I'll take more notice in future.
Your fructose resource states:
fructose may be described? as ?alcohol without the ?buzz??.
Now that is serious!
September 17, 2011 at 3:35 pm #12009Jeff BParticipantDare I ask if anyone has tried this Krystexxa? I’ve been away from this forum for a long time, but the gout? She never stays away for too long, so I’m back again.
Done tried AP, colcrys, uloric, probenecid, indocin, etc. Might as well try a new one too if it doesn’t kill me.
And no, triathloning, mountain bike racing, a great diet, and no alcohol wasn’t enough to keep the beast at bay.

Haven't you noticed that people, youngsters as well as adults, have become addicted to “soft drinks” ?
He also describes the chemical re/actions in the body/brain which HFCS undergoes. According to that process, HFCS? does affect the brain cells, similar to alcohol.
No matter what we think/believe about HFCS, one thing is an undeniable fact: There are more diabetics, and most recently so-called type 2 diabetics than ever before. I don't recall that any body ever mentioned the term “Type 2 diabetes” 20, 30 years ago.

[1] Done tried AP, colcrys, uloric, probenecid, indocin, etc. Might as well try a new one too if it doesn't kill me.
[2] And no, triathloning, mountain bike racing, a great diet, and no alcohol wasn't enough to keep the beast at bay.
I'm with limpy on the confusion about why you are considering this new treatment, when allopurinol is so effective.
Have you read the facts about Krystexxa? This is no easy option.
[1] I'm concerned that you give a string of gout medicines that are a mixture of uric acid lowering treatments and pain relievers. Has your doctor ever discussed a proper gout treatment plan, or explained why the medications that you have tried are not effective? I only ask this, because if your doctor cannot help your gout with the meds that have been around a while, he/she is unlikely to be much help with something as difficult to manage as the often unreliable Krystexxa.
[2] Exercise and diet can help a good plan, but are pointless in themselves. By which I mean, if your goals are confused between uric acid lowering and pain treatment, then you can never determine if lifestyle changes are helping or hindering the plan.
?
1. Get a proper diagnosis
2. Plan what you want to achieve (short term pain relief, long term gout fixing, or both)
3. Take the appropriate treatment and supporting lifestyle changes, making sure you monitor the effects and adjust the plan if necessary
4. Repeat 3 for the rest of what should be a pleasant life free from gout pain
The gout fix plan is relevant.
