Hello,?
I am so glad I found this forum and I really hope I can find some help here. I am 27 years old and I have had gout for about 4 years and as all us gout sufferers know it comes and goes. My problem now is I have been fighting this one gout attack for over 2 weeks now and it wasn't until finally yesterday that I took some medicine that too about 90% of the pain away and a little bit of th swelling so I can walk now but it is still very swollen and it still hurts to the point that I can't set my whole foot on the ground all the way. It kind of looks like my toe and half my foot are floating in the air.?
If you guys have any suggestions I would really appreaciate it. I need to get on with my life I can't be in bed any longer or I will go nuts!!!?

That's the only way to know for sure before you start taking Allop. Whitch is a drug you'll be on for the rest of your life. If you can talk your dr. into giving you some Colchicine and take a good dose and that stops the attack that will also tell you you have gout. What meds did you take that helped??Did you have your uric acid level checked ? If so?what was it? It my be lower right now cause your going thru an attack but you need to have it checked. Good luck. October 13, 2011 at 9:18 pm #12134Keith Taylor (GoutPal Admin)ParticipantThanks for responding. No I have never had fluid taken from my joint. My gout was diagnosed because the very first time I had it I went to the emergency clinic not knowing what it was and they took blood, sent it to my doctor and she told me my uric acid level was very high and I had gout. she prescribed some meds that never worked and to be honest I don't remember the name. ?The med I took yesterday is indometacine and it worked wonders for the first couple of hours but even though I have continued taking it, it hasn't done much else and it still hurts a little and it is still extremely swollen to my liking. I can't walk good still. It has been two weeks I lost my job because of it and now I don't think anyone wants to hire a gimpy guy hahaha. PLEASE HELP!!!
October 13, 2011 at 10:34 pm #12135limpyParticipantYou have to get on Allop and stay on it is a pretty cheap drug and over time will work wonders for most people. The only problem is if the crystals have built up it will take time to dissolve them and you will get more attacks thats where the Colchicine comes in.?Limpy.?
October 13, 2011 at 10:35 pm #12136drmarclevineParticipantTwo weeks for resolution for an acute attack, particulary if you let it go on for some time before taking meds, is not at all unusual.? Early intervention is absolutely critical.? I've found that Indomethacin alone only takes the edge off the pain and is not nearly as effective as Colchicine in knocking down an acute flare.? Try two 0.6mg pills/day of Colchicine for a few days and you'll notice a difference.?
October 13, 2011 at 11:04 pm #12137Keith Taylor (GoutPal Admin)ParticipantYes Indomethacin definitely took most of the pain away. and what you and limpy say makes sense. I might still get other attacks just from breaking this one down. I can't afford to go to the doctor right now and I don't qualify for any medical help because I was making too much money at my job according to these people. but I will try to get a hold of these medicines some how. Now what do you guys recommend for attack prevention?
October 14, 2011 at 5:56 am #12138limpyParticipantCall your dr. he should be able to call in a?scrip for allop if he was the one that told you you have Gout. If you have a Walmart near check and see if this is one of their $4 drugs if so have your dr. call it in there. As far as other things you can do?I myself have stopped an attack with Arm and Hammer baking soda.( THIS IS SOMETHING I DID ON MY OWN AND I'M NOT RECONMENDING YOU DO IT AS I'M NOT A DR.?IT'S JUST?SOMETHING THAT WORKED FOR ME)?I would?take 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon in a 1/2 cup of water mix it up an drink it down.?I would do this a couple of times a day, sometimes every 4 or 5 hours. But be warned this is just a temporary fix and can raise you blood pressure. This worked for me for a couple of weeks then it seemed to lose it effect.?A there is a couple of things you can try. First drink a lot of water it is the number 1 thing as far as home remedies. I've heard 1/2 a ounce for every pound you weigh so if you weigh 200 lbs you should drink at least 100 ounces?day. I try to drink enough water that I'm pissing clear by the end of the day?your?mileagemay vary. some people have good luck with cherries and cherry juice either canned or fresh. It never worked for me but some people swear by it. The same goes for black bean broth it works for some but not for others. But in the end if you have Gout. Allop and Colchicine and the other Gout meds are the only true fixes out there. In my opinion.?If you have gout you need to be on Allop and get it in your head this is something your going to have to take for the rest of your life.?What ever do?I wish you luck. Limpy

what do you mean $4 dollar drugs? do I just ask them directly like that? or is there a way to find out?
October 14, 2011 at 12:14 pm #12140limpyParticipantWALMART AND SOME OTHER PLACES HAVE A LIST OF GENRERIC DRUGS THAT THEY SELL FOR $4 YOU CAN ASK IF ALLOP. IS ON THAT LIST. I KNOW COLCHICINE ISN'T CAUSE THE FDA? JUST SCREWED US AND GAVE IT TO ONE COMPANY. EVEN IF ALLOP?IS NOT ON THEIR LIST OF CHEAP DRUGS. IT DOESN'T COST THAT MUCH. COSTCO IS ANOTHER PLACE TO CALL EVEN IF YOUR NOT A MEMBER YOU CAN STILL GET YOUR PERSCRIPTIONS FILLED THERE. HAVE YOU CALLED YOUR?DR YET??
October 14, 2011 at 2:12 pm #12141Keith Taylor (GoutPal Admin)ParticipantYes I have called my doctor and she refuses to call in a prescription for me. she wants me to come in first. I will call walmart and costco to find out what the deal is. thank you for your useful information. I don't know when but I am going to have to wait until I can afford to see the doctor

You CANNOT get Allo WITHOUT a prescription, regardless of cost.
You better find yourself another doctor who is willing to call in a prescription without putting your feet (or pocketbook) to the fire.
October 20, 2011 at 6:50 am #12166zip2playParticipantNo doctor will calll in a prescription for ANYTHING?without having diagnosed you. It is part caution and part greed.? With a regular doctor you can sometimes get the occasional renewal called in or for an emergency med to tide you over til you can come into the office, but that's it.
?
I did get one doctor to call in my first Rx fro colchicine, but he was my regular doctor (and I could hear him frowning over the phone.)
?
Add to the list of the $4/month Rx providers, K-Mart and Target pharmacies. Yes, allopurinol is on everyone's cheap generic list. (Thank God.)
