Had gout for years now and finally started to take the tablets dailly allop and colch had severe flare ups over the last 2 months , wandering between left and right feet, left ankle at mo but not too bad, (as in not wanting to take axe to it !) went to docs for prescription a couple of weeks ago and asked if medication could be causing the chest pains I have been having, cue emergency ambulanceand 4 days on cardio ward, more pills and spray now, felt really good on Friday so finished work early and went for a blast on my bike then out for a curry woke up with sore left foot and ankle, so went out on bike for 5 hrs around Yorkshire, then drove 60 miles at night for a 50th birthday party got home at midnight left foot really sore. was wondering if the bumps and vibrations from my stiff suspensioned sports motorbike could be some sort off trigger. anyone else had similar experience

So I'm guessing angina with nitroglycerine? Have you had any angiograms, angioplasties, stents?…Heart attacks.
I doubt that allopuinol or colchicine have much to do with it…althout I imagine it is possible for the cartileginous connections between ribs COULD be the site of a gout attack.
If I read you right, you have been on allopurinol about 2 weeks? What dosage? Have you had you serum uric acid checked?
OY, 60 miles on a motorbike…did your ass hurt?

Hi Zip,
The cartileginous connection is good reference provided by you. I have the problem of having pains in the chest, which feel more like coming from the ribs as I can feel mostly while pressing on them.
Due to this pain( which moves from front to sides to back, not fixed spot but many same spots), I have undegone more than 10 times on treadmill stress test and Echo and many tests in last 15 years since the age of 25 plus. Everything always clear so far. And it does not pain when I jog 5 miles but would pain when I am resting in the evening or so. Doctors have said it is either some nerve getting pressed, or some acid reflux and all that as they could not find any reason. Some have termed it anxiety.
Never thought it could be due to cartileginous connections but when I think more about it, that what it seems a possibility. May be that is an area where I do get unexplained pains for no known reason.July 7, 2010 at 8:25 am #9176zip2playParticipantUtube,
Yes, there is very little in life more terrifying than severe pain in the chest. No matter the cause it starts the adrenaline pumping and the heart racing while sweating with pure blazing fear.
Here's a good test to differentiate. Costochondritis (rib, cartilege, tendon, or nerve inflammation that cuses severe chest pain) is ALWAYS sensitive to body position and body motion, deep breathing, etc. Heart pain is NOT sensitive to body position or motion.
So if you sit still without breathing and there is no pain, take some ALEVE…but if it still hurts when you stay still, get to the E/R ASAP.
Also ALEVE helps costochondritis…it does nothing for heart pain.
July 7, 2010 at 8:32 am #9177vegetarianGuyParticipantInteresting about he chest pain. I have also felt pain in my chest region for years…..on and off. I am quiet sure it is not heart related in my case but one could never be sure.
Normally if I get up move my arms and drink some water then it goes away. I think it could be food related? Also stressing my heart in the gym while doing cardio never caused any problem (during or after).
July 7, 2010 at 1:42 pm #9181UtubeliteParticipantLike Zip said, I exactly do like that. Deep breathing, movement, changing body position and puting pressure on pain point…I can feel the pain and pin point it….occasionally it is in waves, difficult to pin point, which doctors say is more like gastric referred pain. Zantac helps to relieve when I get more episodes of such type…
One thing I generally do is walk around and see if it worsens….it generally remains same or improves….and disappears automatically….My pain is more on the shoulder blade and side of chest….
So, what doctors have been saying nerve /rib could be some diamond dust jogging around in the chest cage…
VegGuy is also saying same thing…so, it is possible many people with high SUA might have these symptoms as well…
July 7, 2010 at 1:48 pm #9182UtubeliteParticipantAnd in my case also, doing jogging 5 miles or doing other cardio exercises do not cause any problem…..actually, my joints feel tired and painful after jogging /walking 5-8 miles and breathing heavy( which becomes normal within a minute when I stop exercise)….. but no stress on cardio things…it feels lethargic in the beginning but get much better after few miles of workout…
Gout (high SUA)seems to play in many unexplained body pains…
July 8, 2010 at 10:27 am #9190jetwashjimParticipantHi all
Going for further tests in a couple of weeks cardio respiratory on tread mill and then may do angigram if neccessary, must admit I dont have a lot of stamina these days,so going to buy a push bike for low impact excersise, having ua levels checked about then also when I have been on allop for a month, was prescribed it years ago but stopped when I was cured
And yes my arse hurts after a few hours on the motorbike might try a gel seat pad!
