Justin,
Thank you for your service and best of luck in your upcoming Iraq deployment.
As Keith mentions, getting your uric acid number is important and I don't see why you can still get that done for you while you are in country. Once that's confirmed, your doctor may put you on Allopriinol for long-term maintenance. However, it's not good for treating the pain of current outbreaks.
It doesn't sound like you drink too much, so in the interim, I don't see a downside in making dietary changes. Three cheeseburgers is definitely not good for gout. My concern would be the availablility of gout-friendly vegatarian food while you're deployed. However, if you do wind up on Allopurinol or another “maintenance” drug, it should allow you to eat most of what all the other guys eat and not call attention to youself, which I expect is a benefical from a social standpoint.
dcdudeParticipantDoes anyone else have good results from celery seed (or cherry juice, for that matter?) Among those for whom these are effective, are they preventions or cures? Still trying to get my head around that.
Thanks!
dcdudeParticipantAnyone have an answer to the OP's question on Goutrin? There are 7 people on Amazon who say that they are getting good results.

Which is “correct”? #11515dcdudeParticipantI'm confused as to why MyFootHurst's link to the Choi study was replaced with a link back to GP. If the article was “poor quality,” why is the study still referenced on the GP page?
I found the original article to be very helpful. If there is bad information in it, I'm all ears…

Even as someone of German descent, I've never heard someone use “German” and “humor” in the same sentence before. (sorry, couldn't resist) My people are from Eisfeld, north of Nurnberg.
For a while, there was a gross misconception that practically everyone in southern California surfed. I was just trying to show that's not true.
So do you eat beans and cheese or what? 🙂

Los Angeles has become the world. We've got everything and every type of person here now. It's kind of hard to find the “fruits, nuts and flakes” that LA was famous for. I only know one surfer?

Nice to finally “meet” you electronically. Are you out of the hospital yet?
I've been on a few forums in the last several years, and I must say that I've never seen a single individual who has made so many valuable contributions to one topic or forum. It's simply amazing. Thank you so much in advance for all of your tireless efforts!
As you say, what's even more suprising is how little the “legitimate” medical community has published online. I wonder if it's equally sparse for “major” diseases like cancer or diabetes, etc.? Either way, the conspiracy theorist in me expects that there has to be a certain amount of ego involved for doctors, the AMA and the insurance and pharma industries to leave the institutions status quo (read: profitable) and prevent patients from self-mediacating and other sorts of meddling.
PS: How are your preparations going for Prince William's big day? The hearts of the whole country must be aflutter! 😉
dcdudeParticipantThanks for the nice welcome, guys!
I wanted to carify that I do take Ibuprofin 800 mg for minor flare ups, lets say pain of 3 or less. This has worked pretty well.?
Aza:
-I'm getting a blood test on Saturday and I'll report back
– My Dr. did not mention Allopurionol. Actually, I never saw him that day, which irks me. The nurse practitioner just gave me what I (thought I) wanted.
– I'm curious about fish in your diet. I LOVE fish more than anything, but I uncovered a list of high purine foods, and fish was the highest of the high?!? Higher than beef, which seems to have the worst reputation of all. Maybe diet doesn't matter that much or your Allopurinol is working very well for you?
I'd be happy to attach this list, which I customized from high purine to low. Until then, here is a link that I used for my data: acumedico.com/purine.htm
