GoutfulParticipant
Thanks Zip. I am feeling better today. took a little colch last night at bedtime and again this morning. was able to go for a short bike ride yesterday. plan on doing the same today. its certainly nice to be able to walk again and ride a bike. my goal is to prevent these attacks from reoccurring to the best of my ability. I would like to get back on the Allopurinol 300 mg. as soon as is wise to do so. I am just not sure when that is. My Doc apparently thinks I should wait until the end of august. Not sure why. I am pretty convinced that my most recent episode was not caused by allopurinol.
Anyway I am taking things 1 day at a time right now, but I want to move forward with more effectively managing my gout. I have been dealing with this for 5 yrs and am desparate for some help and relief.
GoutfulParticipantThanks, thats kind of what I was thinking. 1 day of allopurinol probably didnt cause the attack, but hiking and banging my feet and ankles around probably did trigger a gout attack. I am finally feeling better now after over a week of hell. I am taking a colchiciene daily per instructions from my gp. He said i could take indo or colch. After several wks gout free we are going to initiate the allopurinol again.
GoutfulParticipantThanks are you a doctor or something? i have the Allopurinol ready to go, since i had just taken it for one day when I had a large gout attack. starting on big toe and radiating pain and swelling in both feet, unable to walk etc. was wondering if one dose of allopurinol could cause such a reaction by waking up the old urates and replanting them?
I've been on small amounts of colch and an indo for the past 7 . Today i am still having some symptoms in my toes and just took 1 indo. my doc told me i should take colch or indo for 3 weeks and then reconsider allo. i am not sure what is going to change? i strongly suspect that my most recent attack was not related to the allo at all. i had just sustained a minor foot injury during physical exercise and i believe that the minor injury brought on the influx of synovial fluid to my ankle which precipitated the gout attack.
I had heard that allo can make a gout attack worse or cause new flare ups. i would obviously like to not have flare ups if I can avoid them. I was thinking I should let things setle down for a few days, just for my sanity if nothing else. : ) But if the ultimate issue is allo and diet then i would like to get on with it.
