Chou, you can beat this. Just hang in there. I and other on here know the pain and depresstion your going thu. This last year was hard on me, but after 3 1/2 months on Allop me pain level is down to almost none. I had the same thoughts as you to the point of sending my handgun home with my brother. So get on the meds and off the booze. You can do it. Good luck. LIMPY
limpyParticipantWell guys it's the 2nd day since I stopped the colchicine still no pain so i'm going to stay off it unless I get a flare. I must say after 3 1/2 months on Allop my feet feel like I never suffered thru this nightmare. They haven't felt this good in a year (knock on wood) they feel almost normal. I would have bet money that they'd never feel that way again. The numbness and the ankle pain were the last to go. What a great feeling to be able to stretch with out having pain shoot thru my feet. LIMPY
limpyParticipantJoe, Glad to hear your doing better. I started Allop May 22nd and now I feel like I've never had Gout. I went for a 1 1/2 mile walk today with no pain. I haven't been able to do that for almost a year. LIMPY
limpyParticipantI FORGOT TO MENTION I WAS ALSO ON AND OFF PREDNISONE FROM LAST OCT. TO THE FIRST WEEK IN JULY. LIMPY
limpyParticipantThanks Art, I sure hope so. If you don't mind me asking. Could you tell me how many times it's happened to you and how long it lasted. When I googled it it said it can take up to 3 weeks. I know were all different but any hope at this point is a blessing. Thanks LIMPY
limpyParticipantYeah, I know what you mean with all the info on here a guy doesn't feel so helpless. I felt alot better after I found this site and started reading about other people and the good results they were getting. LIMPY
limpyParticipantHans, the last acid numbers were 5.5 and 5.7 LIMPY

If you'd like to get off colchicine earlier, why not up your allopurinol to 300 mg. and stop the colchicine in a couple weeks. I doubt that a single colchicine a day is doing you much good anyway.
Hi Zip, I’ve talked to 2 Rheumatologists and my family doctor about upping my dose of Allopurinol. They all said my numbers are right where they want them to be. So they shot down the thought of going to 300mgs. I will say that as far as pain my feet they haven't felt this good in a year. Also I'm taking 1 .6 colchicine twice a day. But the way things are going I'm thinking I might not need it anymore. I just don't want to bring on another attack by stopping the Colchicine. Thanks. LIMPY
limpyParticipantI was going thu the same thing I have and old Toyota pick up and it hurt almost everytime I shifted. But now I can drive quite awhile before it gets to me. I almost sold it but I'm glad I didn't now. YOU CAN ALWAYS GET A GIRL WITH BIG THIGHS LIMPY
limpyParticipantDon't sell your car till you give Allop a chance to do it's magic. If you really like the car you better hold off or you'll be sorry LIMPY
limpyParticipantJon, Zip is right on about a slow step down from Prednisone. It worked real well for me at lower doses but my heart started pounding and skipping beats when I was on 60mgs a day and was told by my Rhumatologist to cut back to 30mgs a day. That was way to big of a drop. So decrease it slowly. As far as Allop it has given me back my life. Althought I still have some pain and numdness in my left foot and ankle I hate to think where I'd be without it. I use to lay in bed and try to find the one neutral spot. I could rest my leg in so I wouldn't have searing pain shooting thu my ankle. But after a few months on Allop things are so much better. I'm replacing my 7 foot pool table with a 9 foot one yesterday I helped tear it down and carry out the slates that have to weigh 150 lbs each. A couple of months ago I had my doubts that I'd every be able to stay on my feet long enough to play a game. So I'll finsh by saying. Stay on the Allop it will get better just give it time.
P.S. I'd ask your doctor about upping your dose of Colchicine. I take one .6mgs tablet twice a day and it has me going to the bathroom two or three time a day but it has taken the edge off the pain. Good luck. LIMPY
limpyParticipantI was in the same boat as you I was up and down on Prednisone most of last winter and into spring. I started Allop May 22nd had one bad flare. After that was put on 60 mgs a day. It took about a month to wean down to 20 than another couple of weeks to get clear off them. Now I'm taking .6 mgs of colchicine twice a day and doing a lot better. I was so glad to get off prednisone as it's not a drug you want to take long term. If i were you i'd ask my doctor about getting on colchicine. good luck LIMPY
limpyParticipantHello Art, Your right this is a great site with lots of info. Are you on Allop or some other med for your gout? LIMPY
limpyParticipantJP, I STARTED TAKING 200MGS OF ALLOP THREE MONTHS AGO I HAD A BAD FLARE 5 DAYS LATER WAS ON PREDNISONE FOR MONTHS BEFORE AND HAD TO UP THE DOSE WHEN FLARE HIT. SINCE I STARTED THE ALLOP THING HAVE GOTTEN BETTER. I STILL HAVE SOME PAIN IN MY ANKLE BUT THE WAY IT'S GOING I'M SURE IN A SHORT TIME THIS WILL BE A THING OF THE PAST. I DON'T DRINK ANY MORE BUT FROM WHAT I'VE READ ON HERE. AFTER YOU GET GOUT UNDER CONTROL YOU CAN HAVE A FEW DRINKS NOW AND AGAIN AND NOT SUFFER FROM IT. AS FAR AS MEAT I REALLY TOOK IT EASY ON IT FOR AWHILE. BUT NOW I'M BACK TO EATING JUST ABOUT ANYTHING I WANT. I JUST DON'T OVER DO IT. ALTHOUGH I NEVER COULD PIN POINT ANY ONE FOOD THAT TRIGGERED MY GOUT. AS FAR AS JOGGING FROM WHAT I'VE READ ON HERE MOST GOUTIES GIVE IT UP BECAUSE THEIR JOINTS WON'T TAKE THE POUNDING. I'M SO GLAD THAT I CAN TAKE ALLOP AND THE IT'S FINALLY CLEARING UP MY GOUT. I'VE HAD ONE FLARE AFTER ANOTHER SINCE LAST OCT. DOCTOR FINALLY FOUND CRYSTALS IN MY ANKLE FLUID AFTER THE SECOND TRY. FIRST ONE IN JAN. THEN AGAIN IN MAY. MAN WAS IT A LONG WINTER AND SPRING. WOW DIDN'T MEAN TO GET CARRIED AWAY BUT TO CUT TO THE CHASE. MY RHUMATOLOGIST TOLD ME IT CAN SOMETIMES TAKE UP TO A YEAR TO GET BACK TO FEELING NORMAL. BUT ONCE YOU GET THERE IT'S LIKE YOU NEVER HAD GOUT AS LONG AS YOU STAY ON YOUR MEDS. SO HERE'S HOPING . GOOD LUCK. LIMPY P.S. SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS
limpyParticipantI'VE BEEN ON ALLOP FOR 3 MONTHS AND IT'S JUSTING STARTING TO REALLY GET RID OF THE PAIN. I HAD MY WORST ATTACK A WEEK AFTER STARTING IT. THEY HAVE GOTTEN LIGHTER AND LESS OFTEN SINCE THEN.
limpyParticipantIf he's having an attack his acid level can be close to normal, Mine were. I think I would be seeing another doctor. I'll say this again if this doctor had the pain your husband is going thu he'd already be on meds! I wish your husband luck. LIMPY
limpyParticipantI know there have been some post on here saying it works for people who can't take Allop. You can probably find them if you do a little digging. I'm sure someone will come along soon and fill you in on it. Good luck. LIMPY
limpyParticipantHang in there if it's gout the Allop will clear it. Many on here will tell you of their success on it if you do a little digging. I've been on it for 3 month and it's working for me. Good luck LIMPY
limpyParticipantI had a simalar thing with my gout last winter it started in one foot then went to the other then back and forth for months. That was before I knew that I had gout for sure. I was up and down on steroids the attacks would come and go. Finally got started on 200 mgs of Allop. 3 months ago and 1 0.6 Colchicine tablet twice a day. I still have some pain in my ankle but it's better than it was by a long shot. I know that once you start on Allop you have to stay on it for life. I had a very strong flare one week after I started the Allpo but since the attacks have been father apart and not as intense. So in my case the longer I've been on it the better I get. Good luck LIMPY
limpyParticipantWell guess that takes care of that Thanks Zip. NEXT
limpyParticipantThanks Trev and Zip, I read on and archery site about it. A few guys on there swear by it for their shoulder pain. So i thought I'd ask about it here. LIMPY
limpyParticipantVery interesting sounds like for some people it's a win win. LIMPY
limpyParticipantHello Soleranz, Your at the right place for info about gout. There are alot of good people on here to answer any questions you have. They'll need some info about your granny. Like age, weight, meds, and health. It sometimes takes awhile but I haven't found a better place for help than here. There's alot of info in the older posts that you can read thu while waiting and you may find your answers there. Anyway I wish you and your granny the best. LIMPY
limpyParticipantHello Zip, I read on here somewhere (maybe in the wish forum) that there should be some sucess stories. Well I think yours should top the list. I hope I have your kind of luck with the meds once I get this constant pain in my foot cleared up. LIMPY

Hello Friends,
i used to jog all the time and would like to get back to it. I developed a nasty case of plantar fasciitis on my left foot with the gout in my right great toe. I think I got the problems on my left side by favoring it due to toe pain on the other foot. I am very active but years of foot pain has really bummed me out.
Hello Hayata, Are you on Allop? If so how long. I'm just wondering because your trouble sounds alot like mine. I just started Allop. in May and still having some pain. But also have pain in my foot that MD said may be plantar fascitiis. Thanks LIMPY

Is the reason you can't run. That it beats your ankles and feet to much? My feet and ankles still hurt every day and I've been on 200mg of Allopurinol since May 22nd.
limpy, I gave up running and dramatically cut back training hikes because by right big toe joint(most common atack point for me) was always in some sort of pain. I have had attacks in other parts of both feet but that joint is ol reliable when its comes to hurtin. I started AP back in Jan @300MG. In May my levels were hovering around 6, most attacks were gone but I still had issues with pain in that foot. At this point I was still hiking 5-6 days a week, 6 miles a day and some days I was trail running. When I saw the doc in May he upped my dose to 600MG and talked to me about how I exercise and the issues I may see ongoing. He suggested a bike to take some of the abuse off the foot. Spring time is a busy backpacking time of year, I went on several trips and had pain on all of them, I also had a small attack brought on by the increased AP dose. After my last trip I decided to give up on backpacking and cut back hiking for the short term and give the bike a try to see if that would make a difference. Within 3 weeks I was pain free and have been so since mid June, this is something that has not happened for a few years now. I don't have any trips til October when I wil spend about 12 days in the Grand Canyon, until then it is heavy biking, moderate hiking(no more then 3 days a week). If you are running and still have pain in the foot, stop running and jump on a bike or other activity that will give your feet a break.
I wish i could run. But just walking I get pain in my ankle. I've been on Allop. since May and doing better but far from great.
limpyParticipantodo, The numbers weren't just my acid levels (5.5 and 5.7 the last 2 tests) but also for my liver and kidneys. Believe me I'd like to see my acid level below 5. I'm sure that I still have build up in my body that would clear if my Allopurinol dose was increased. But I'm no doctor and I don't feel good about just going off on my own and taking more pills. Thats why I'm holding off until I see another Rhumatologist this month. LIMPY
limpyParticipantJULIANA, Glad to hear your husband is doing better. I know it's hard when we see someone we love in pain. And when you read all the possible side effects. Of the meds we have to take in a hope that we'll get better. It can be very scary. But in this lawsuit crazy world. The drug companys have to cover their behinds by listing every side effect that ever been reported with each drug. I see your from England. I don't know what it's like over there. But in the USA about every 5 minute or so on the TV. There's an ad to call a lawyer. If you of someone you know has taken this or that drug. It seems like were being used like a bunch of lab rats. That being said as far as Allopurinal goes it's been around a long time. I myself think it's a pretty safe drug. I've been on it for about 9 weeks and so far so good. I hope husband keeps having good luck with it to. LIMPY

Goutful, careful with that hiking that bit me in the arse when I was trying to get things stabalized. I started biking and that made a huge difference. I take 600MG of AP now everyday, started at 300MG but I do hike 8 miles a day or ride 20 and my doc felt it prudent to up my dose because of that activity. I had a few AP induced attacks but things have gotten much MUCH better. I dare not run ever again
Is the reason you can't run. That it beats your ankles and feet to much? My feet and ankles still hurt every day and I've been on 200mg of Allopurinol since May 22nd. Their better than they were and I'm not getting the major attacks. But I still have pain I tried to talk my MD. and my current Rhumatologist into uping my dose to 300mg but they tell me my test numbers are right where they should be . I'll be seeing another Rhumatologist the 17th of this month and I'm hoping he'll have a better idea of what's going on. I've never had anything get me down and keep me down like this. It's very draining on a guys mind. LIMPY
limpyParticipantGeorge, Glad to hear your doing better. This stuff can really get a guy down.Good luck. LIMPY
