From previous experience, I do think marijuana has some therapeutic effect on gout pain. However, I would just guess that the drying out effect, and the way it manipulates the metabolism would probably make it more of a hindrance than a help. This is simply my opinion. I think mj use would not be beneficial in achieving a patterned lifestyle. It changes hydration, metabolism, eating habits, heart rate, etc. This might cause more uric acid to be produced. I have used it while in a severe attack, and it seems to lighten the pain and encourage stretching of sorts. Heck, I will just about do anything when I get in that severe zone of pain! These are just my opinions and thoughts form my experiences. I am not a professional and don't agree or disagree with the use of marijuana.
roosterwesParticipantI have a result from a 24 hr urine i took some years ago. How would i determine if I am an under excreter or over producer from the results? I can post them. I just want to get complete understanding before I start getting all the tests through the Rheumy, plus a little backgroiungd wouldn't hurt. I'm also going to get a UA blood test tomorrow, but I can't get a 24hr urine until Dec 10. It is very hard to get an appointment with a rheumatologist even close to where I live. I live in a very rural area, and must travel an hour and a half to see a doc.
Should I start a new post?
roosterwesParticipantI have plenty of 300 mg Ap from the first time I was too stupid to take it. I don't go to the rheumy until dec 10. I also don't know if my insurance will pay for labs again this soon. I am just wondering……….
What would be a good dosage to go with? 600? Would it it kill my liver?
Not saying I'd ever do that. But if I did.

roosterwesParticipantI have totally come to the same conclusion. I bought a device that consists of a bag of clay with a cloth cover that you put in the microwave. I plan on keeping up the blood flowing as well as possible.
I do see where some of the tophi has visually dissolved, but I think it is landing back around the wrist on my other arm. I am getting tested ASAP. Also getting home tests.
roosterwesParticipantAre the home tests any good? Where might I find them?
roosterwesParticipantI'm going to create a full post on my journey including labs and such. My paw is simply too swollen for such at the present time.
My UA has been higher. One doctor suggested parathyroid problems. Right now, I know I must lower my uric acid.
No crash diet. My RF has been positive 2 or 3 times.
Thanks

wes,
I mentioned that on another post. Do you CRUNCH when you walk?
Only on days when I can walk.
roosterwesParticipant11.0 here
roosterwesParticipantI am almost 100 percent sure I have gout. There are a few things that can cause an invalid RA reading from time to time. Although, my mom does have lupus.
My uric was 11 a couple a weeks ago!
roosterwesParticipantI had actually taken my last Zpack pil today. I talked to the pharmacist, and he said he was aware of some crosses, but the zithromax had been alright with all his customers. So, I took my chances. 2 hrs ago (.6) and some swelling is gone. Can't type much, as my right hand looks like a balloon. I'm going to take two more and try to make it through the night. I think it actually worked better than the narcotics I still have. You know, the narcotics work great at first at making you not feel the pain. But, after awhile, they dryyou out and cause over use and extra swelling. The key for me is getting off the pain and pred, and most of all, patience. I always knew in the back of my mind what was going on, but it was too easy to take the pain meds and pred. I am paying for it now as I have some severe difformities. Especially one elbow. I'm going to suffer for months, but I've made up my mind to fight. Now, for some more water.l

Hi Just,
Firstly, forget food for now. If food is an issue (and it is a BIG IF), you can sort this out later (with our help of course), but for now you must concentrate on your uric acid numbers.
I am unaware of a link between gout and rheumatoid arthritis, but gout can cause osteoarthritis as uric acid deposits eat into your bones. That is why you need to control the uric acid.
Have you discussed uric acid control with your doctor?
I have very high UA levels and RA positive. I went to a Rheuma today. Supposedly going to all be sorted. Starting allopurinol and colchicine. Whatever I got, it's way bad. Tophi is terrible.

Sorry I'm late to this topic. I hope you are OK now, cjeezy.
This one has me a bit confused. When the Biaxin warning was issued about not taking that macrolide antibiotic if you were taking colchicine, the warning was based (at least partly) on “Fatal Interaction between Clarithromycin and Colchicine in Patients with Renal Insufficiency: A Retrospective Study”. In that study, the authors state:
“If a macrolide must be prescribed with colchicine, azithromycin should be considered, because it is mainly excreted unchanged in bile and has no effect on cytochrome P450 metabolism and the P-glycoprotein transporter system.”
Clearly, this is NOT the case.
Anything that affects the liver is a risk. Whilst checking my references for this, I found a study earlier this year about potential problems with grapefruit juice –
The data suggest that GFJ may augment colchicine oral bioavailability. Due to colchicine narrow therapeutic-index and severely toxic side-effects, awareness of this interaction is prudent.
Though I'm not sure how much credence one should give to someone who abbreviates Grapefruit Juice to GFJ.
Note: Pomegranate Juice (PGJ?) and some other fruits will probably have similar effects.
There is no doubt in my mind that Z Pacs cause flare up. I think it is documented somewhere, but not sure. It certainly does mine. I happened to be reading on this wonderful website while being on a Zpac. Also, my wife just happens to walk in the door with the colchicine I was prescribed today for severe tophacious gout. I am also hurting and haven't taken colchicine in years. What to do? HELP
