Gout pain is due to inflammation that results when our immune system attacks uric acid crystals. Medicines to cure gout pain work by reducing that inflammation. As science discovers more knowledge of how our bodies react to uric acid crystals, new ways of fighting gouty arthritis inflammation are being developed. Individual responses to different gout treatments vary from person to person, so if you find that a particular gout pain remedy is not working for you, discuss some alternatives with your doctor.

There are many other anti-inflammatory gout remedies. NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) are a large group of similar medicines that include ibuprofen and indomethacin listed above. I will add more to the list later.

Note that these painkillers are not a long-term solution. Most are only suitable for use for a short time, and they should be seen as an interim measure while you get rid of old uric acid crystals by lowering your blood uric acid below 6mg/dL (0.35mmol/L).
