This list of uric acid level ranges is an alternative to using the uric acid conversion calculator. Because it allows you to convert uric acid test results between scales used in different countries. More importantly, it gives you medical gout ranges instead of statistical high, low, and normal. So you can understand your own uric acid level, as this is key to controlling gout.
As you will see below, there are lots of different numbers, and it can be confusing because different scales are used in different countries. You need to know the exact number, and the scale used. When you have your personal uric acid level, you have the starting point for controlling your gout. If you do not know your uric acid level, or if you do not know if it is too high, you can get help in my gout forum. Start a new discussion about your uric acid level.
Don’t Accept Normal Range
Before I list the numbers, I must warn you of the dangers of “normal” uric acid ranges. Because these are frequently interpreted as acceptable, healthy numbers. But they are not! “Normal” in this sense is a statistical term. Which is why you might also see it referred to as “reference range” or similar. Now, this number is calculated from averages of people who have blood tested in the lab. So that average invariably includes a number of undiagnosed gout sufferers.
This problem is so serious that I’ve created a campaign – Normal Uric Acid No Thanks. Where you can find several examples of the dangers of normal uric acid. Also see my summary of Normal Uric Acid Levels.
So instead of aiming for normal uric acid, you should aim for safe levels below 5 mg/dL[1]. Though other medical conditions might mean your doctor has to target 6 mg/dL instead of 5.
Uric Acid Level Ranges List
Though I have assigned labels to different ranges, these are somewhat arbitrary. Please see my explanation of why you should consider uric acid ranges rather than absolute values. My labels will give you a general guide to uric acid levels, but the most important thing for you is to set target levels at different stages of your treatment in conjunction with your doctor.

GoutPal Response: Conversion needs 2 uric acid scales
On the general question of the correct uric acid conversion formula, I included a link to the formula I used. So now I’ve highlighted it with a heading: Uric Acid Scales. But I’m struggling with Brian’s specifics about his results because I don’t understand the scales and the formula he has used. So I’ve asked for clarification – hopefully as a photograph of his test result.
